Panther’s Run Golf Links
A Tim Cate design at Ocean Ridge Plantation, Panther’s Run Golf Links blends a pristine nature-preserve setting, rolling wooded land, rambling brooks, ponds, generous landing areas, TifEagle greens, and a nervy water-guarded finish.
A Big Cats round that stalks through nature.
Panther’s Run Golf Links is one of the Big Cats at Ocean Ridge Plantation and one of Tim Cate’s most natural-feeling layouts. The course winds through preserved coastal terrain, rolling wooded corridors, ponds, brooks, native vegetation, and broad landing areas that give players room to play without removing the strategy.
MyrtleBeachGolf.com lists Panther’s Run as a par 72 course designed by Tim Cate, opened in 1996, with 7,089 championship yards, 6,267 men’s yards, and 5,023 ladies yardage. The official Big Cats site also lists the back-tee yardage at 7,089 and notes TifEagle Bermudagrass greens installed in 2018.
The course is known for blending playability with water pressure. MBGolf notes that water is visible on 17 of 18 holes and becomes part of the challenge on 12 holes, while PlayGolfMyrtleBeach highlights fingerling bunkers, strategic water hazards, doglegs, and the forced-carry second shot into the 18th.
For a 2026 Myrtle Beach golf trip, Panther’s Run is a strong Big Cats value-and-scenery pick. It gives groups a playable tee-to-green experience, plenty of natural beauty, and enough late-round bite to keep the scorecard from curling up for a nap.
Tim Cate routing
Cate used the existing nature preserve as the canvas, moving little dirt and letting rolling wooded land, ponds and brooks define the round.
TifEagle greens
The official Big Cats course page notes immaculately manicured TifEagle Bermudagrass greens that were installed in 2018.
Water on the mind
Water is visible on nearly every hole and becomes a real strategic factor on much of the course, especially on the closing approach.

How Panther’s Run plays.
Panther’s Run gives golfers space off the tee, but it keeps asking one question: are you choosing the right side? Water, doglegs, bunkers and wooded edges make angle more important than simply finding grass.
The course is especially sneaky because many holes look generous from the tee, then tighten near the green. Approaches over or near water are the real scorecard separators, with No. 18 bringing the day’s loudest growl.
For 2026 trips, Panther’s Run is best for groups that want a scenic Big Cats round with broad playability and enough water pressure to stay interesting. It is friendly from the right tees, but lazy targets can still get swatted.
