True Blue Golf Club is not a quiet little Pawleys Island round. It is big, brawny, sandy, rolling, and unmistakably Mike Strantz, with wide fairways, enormous greens, dramatic waste areas, and visuals that feel carved more than drawn.
Designed by Mike Strantz and opened in 1998, True Blue plays as a par 72 and stretches to 7,126 yards from the championship tees. The course gives players room off the tee, but that room is part of the trick. Position still matters because the greens are large, shaped, and full of sections that can leave long, curling putts if approached from the wrong angle.
Built on former rice and indigo plantation land, True Blue uses live oaks, towering pines, tidal creeks, salt marsh, sandy waste areas, and elevation changes to create one of the more dramatic course settings on the South Strand.
It is the kind of course that rewards imagination. There are wide targets, yes, but also bold bunkering, carry decisions, giant green complexes, and enough contour to make the round feel like golf architecture with a grin and a megaphone.
