The Wizard Golf Club is one of the more visually unusual rounds in Myrtle Beach. Designed by Dan Maples, the course was shaped from flat coastal ground into rolling fairways, berms, lakes, and mounds that give the property a Scottish-flavored personality.
The course plays as a par 72 and stretches to 6,721 yards from the championship tees. The scorecard number is manageable, but The Wizard defends itself with elevation changes, water, native vegetation, large greens, and angles that can make a simple shot suddenly feel like it needs a spellbook.
More than 1 million cubic yards of dirt were moved to form the course’s rolling hills and berms. That shaping gives The Wizard a different feel from many Myrtle Beach layouts, especially when paired with the large man-made lakes and wetlands throughout the property.
The castle-style clubhouse sets the tone before the round even begins. It is theatrical, memorable, and just strange enough to make the golf trip feel like it has wandered into its own little side quest.
