Caledonia Golf & Fish Club is one of the most celebrated rounds on the Grand Strand, carrying the kind of must-play pull that makes golfers build an entire itinerary around it. The arrival alone sets the spell: a long, moss-draped avenue of live oaks, then a course routed through marsh, water, flowers, and towering trees.
Designed by Mike Strantz and opened in 1994, Caledonia plays as a par 70 from 6,526 yards. That number may look modest on paper, but the course earns its reputation through angles, green complexes, bunkering, water, and constant visual pressure.
The course sits on a former Lowcountry plantation property, and the design uses the land’s natural character instead of burying it under bulk earthwork. The result is a course that feels artistic, strategic, and deeply tied to Pawleys Island.
Caledonia’s closing hole is the scene-stealer. The par-4 18th finishes beside the clubhouse, requiring an approach over water to a green watched by golfers and guests from the porch. It is part golf hole, part little theater, and it can turn a friendly match into a courtroom drama in two swings.

How Caledonia plays.
Caledonia does not need extreme yardage to defend itself. It protects par with angles, tight approaches, water, bunkers, and greens that reward the player who chooses the correct side of the fairway.
